Balcorta is CEO for Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe, Inc.
where he has been instrumental in transforming the community health
center into a comprehensive health and human services organization. Balcorta
has been appointed to and served on numerous local, state, and
national advisory panels addressing the issues of communicable
diseases, substance abuse, AIDS, teenage pregnancy, gangs, border
health and social justice. Salvador currently serves as
a board member and executive committee member to the National
Council of La Raza, the largest national constituency-based Hispanic
organization and the leading voice in Washington, D.C. for the
Hispanic community. In 2005, Balcorta became a member of
JPMorgan Chase National Community Advisory Board, and a member
of the National Commission on Safety and Abuse in America’s Prisons.
In 2004,
the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) – El Paso Chapter
recognized Balcorta with the highest honor, the Life Time Achievement
Award. Later in the year, Balcorta received the state award from
the NASW Texas State Chapter.
Balcorta
has traveled across the country lecturing on various health and
social issues. Most importantly, he holds on to his role as a
social activist who continues to advocate and represent the Chicano
community on the various issues affecting them.
