The University of Texas-Pan American is honored and privileged to provide the foundation and develop the Raúl Yzaguirre Policy Institute on our campus.  There could be no more appropriate home for this center of policy and leadership development than UTPA in the Rio Grande Valley where we are educating the most Mexican American students in the nation and producing some of the country’s top Hispanic engineers, doctors and educators. 

It is in this Valley that a young Raúl Yzaguirre began his journey of conscience and leadership.  Our entire nation is better because of the values and courage that were nurtured in the heart of this Valley. 

 My friend, Raúl Yzaguirre, is an extraordinary man, a national symbol of Hispanic empowerment and a warrior for equality.  A champion of unity and understanding among our diverse Hispanic communities, he has nurtured leaders from Miami to L.A, from the barrio to the boardroom.

His life and legacy of leadership will inspire a whole new generation of Hispanic policy makers, civil rights advocates and government officials. In the process, the Raúl Yzaguirre Policy Institute and The University of Texas-Pan American will literally change the face of a nation.”
