Tuition and Fee Process for FY 2009
Formal preparations for the process that will set
tuition and fee rates for fiscal year 2009 (the period
from September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009) have
not begun. However, below is a general timeline for
the process. The process will be like the processes
followed for setting the fiscal year 2007 and fiscal
year 2008 rates so you may wish to go to those links.
| September, 2008 |
Budget office staff begin gathering materials & doing
other pre-process preparations. |
| September, 2008 |
The Vice President for Business Affairs distributes
a memorandum to departments notifying them of the
beginning of the process and communicating related
information such as deadlines, etc. |
| September, 2008 |
Executive Council (the president & the vice
presidents) meet to discuss the general approach,
timelines, etc.

| October through early November |
The Cost of Education Committee (COEC) holds
meetings, hears from departments making requests
and provides written recommendations to the president |
| November |
Comment period on COEC recommendations for the
vice presidents, deans and other administrators.

| November |
Campus open forums for students, faculty, parents
and the community to hear from the COEC on its
recommendations and ask questions. Posters will
be put up and the forums will be announced in The
Pan American and The Monitor. |
| November/December |
The president submits the UTPA recommendations to UT System administration and
copies all local legislators. Information is distributed to the board members
and the institutions respond to requests for clarification. |
| February |
The Board of Regents considers proposals; the
recommendations are presented to the Board by the
UTPA president and the Student Government Association
(SGA) president. |
