Fees Overview

Summary of Categories

Fees, like any other item, may be categorized in different ways. For example, they could be grouped by how they are setup in the accounting system (by fund) or by some other category. Below are some of the most-commonly identified fee groupings.

Laboratory & Supplemental Fees: As the name implies, these are fees charged to defray laboratory expenses and to supplement resources in specific courses.

Mandatory Fees: These are fees that are imposed on all undergraduate students upon enrollment. Examples include the Student Union fee and the Student Service Fee.

Incidental Fees: These are fees specifically authorized by §54.504. Note that some incidental fees, such as the Registration Fee, are also mandatory fees. The vast majority of fees are authorized as incidental fees.
