Your Student Development Specialists are here to help you make
the most out of your time at the University. We can offer you insight and
advice on how to best plan ahead for your upper-level courses, professional
programs, graduating in a timely manner, etc.
We also work closely with various departments on campus like: Student Outreach Services, Financial Aid Services, Admissions and Records, Career Placement Services, The Counseling/Advisement Center, etc. in an effort to increase your knowledge on how to be a successful student.
We are here to .....Ease Your Transition!
You may experience a number of challenges from high school to University life. Some will be encouraging and others will be "learning experiences". Our goal is to provide both an academic and supportive environment for your success. If at any time you are unsure of your major, find yourself overwhelmed with academics, etc...remember, you can count on us- the University Retention Advisement Program (URAP).
Not
every student is quite so certain about the best possible career path for
them. If you are a student uncertain of your major, URAP
Student Development Specialists can help you explore different career
possibilities. If you have a general idea of the type of profession that would
meet your values, goals, and dreams but still haven't made the commitment
involved in deciding on a major, let us assist you by providing academic
counseling and support within a mentoring atmosphere.
Consider
meeting with a URAP Student Development Specialist for more information on
college disciplines and academic requirements. The University of
Texas-Pan American offers over forty-five undergraduate academic disciplines,
which, in turn, offer over 100 possible career paths.
For
additional assistance on the decision-making process involved in
selecting your career path, contact the
Counseling
Center at 381-2574 or The University Retention Advisement Program (URAP) and The
Counseling Center team together to establish academic and career counseling a
priority for UT-PA students.
If you are majoring in a program that differs from what your student record indicates, you must complete a "Change of Information Form". This form must be completed and turned into your major department.
