Welcome

The UTPA Dance Program offers undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts Degree. A minor in Dance is available for students majoring in other disciplines. The Dance Program provides a curriculum of dance classes in Ballet, Modern Jazz, Mexican Folkloric, Modern, and Spanish/Flamenco. Dance classes are open to all undergraduate students and the program includes beginning, intermediate and advanced levels to meet the varied needs of students. Performance opportunities are available for students enrolled in the three performance companies: the UTPA Ballet Folklórico, Dance Ensemble, and the Cuadro Flamenco Ensemble.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance provides a broad coverage of dance training, including dance technique and performance skills, choreography, historical and cultural dimensions of dance, and principles of teaching. Students are prepared to teach dance in a public/private school setting, or to continue dance study at the graduate level or in a professional dance context. There are approximately 50 undergraduate majors and minors enrolled in dance courses each semester. The program is staffed by four full-time dance faculty.

The facilities include two spacious dance studios, an intimate 300-seat Jeffers Theater and a 1,050 seat Fine Arts Auditorium. Approximately eighteen classes are offered per semester in two dance studios located in the Department of Health & Kinesiology.
