Why Join The Pan American Chapter of Delta Upsilon?
Diversity: Our members are the most culturally diverse of all UT-PA organizations (Greek or non), our chapter-founders include 1 native of Hong Kong, 1 native of Guatemala, 2 gentlemen who were still citizens of Mexico at the time of initiation, 2 White (non-hisp.), 1 African-American and 11 Mexican-Americans. Our members also include 1 native of the Dominican Republic.
Equality: All of our members are treated equally and are free to be themselves.
Leadership: D.U. offers more leadership-training and conferences to develop our members' character (which proves to be more useful and marketable in the real world ;after graduation from college) than any other Fraternity on Campus.
Tradition: D.U. is the 6th oldest College Fraternity in the world (since 1834).
Alumni: Famous D.U. alumni include Kurt Vonnegut (author of Breakfast of champions, featured in "Varsity Blues"), US president James Garfield, Linus Pauling (2-time Nobel Prize winner), General Tom R. Franks (In charge of military operations in Afghanistan), coach Lou Holtz and many more.
Unity: We are always there when our brothers need us, any time, any place. We also have brothers in over 82 chapters in the U.S. and Canada. from Harvard to San Diego State, Houston to Alberta, Purdue to Central Florida.
Pride: We take pride in being gentlemen and do not believe in the "frat" stereotype that has plagued the reputation of our fellow Greeks for decades. We are 1 of only 2 Fraternities on campus not to have had an altercation with local or state authorities on local alcohol violations or suspension from the university for any such acts. We do not display demeaning nicknames on our clothing and we take pride in our love for justice. When it comes to pledging our chapter, we rush no one, we recruit and induct students into our pledge classes all year long.
Scholarship: We have the highest GPA of any student organization on campus (3.2) and we are also the only Greeks on campus to offer scholarships to our members (2 types).
Integrity: We have 3 founders who served in the armed forces (1 Air force, later became Coast-Guard N.C.O., 1 Marine Corps and Navy N.C.O. and one Army National Guardsman, later joined ROTC); 1 ex-president of SGA (Student Government Association) and 3 ex-senators. along with a rich tradition of being honest and true to ourselves and our University.
Loyalty: We are loyal to our fellow Greeks, our University and above all our-selves, we remain loyal to our traditions and our letters since our chartering, we have one of the highest retention rates for our members in the University. It is this loyalty which precedes our reputation for getting along with all other Fraternities on campus better than any other student organization can. A D.U. is a member for life, not just the remainder of his college years. At the same time, we encourage you to take part in another student organization (other than D.U.) and help make a difference in the University and community by doing so.
Our Community: The Pan American Chapter has had a commitment to helping our community since 1998 (Boys and Girls Club, South Padre Island Beach-Cleanup, Highway-Cleanup, charity events and helping the KIWANI Club)
No Secrets and No Hazing: We have no secrets, we tell you anything you want to know and your family and friends will be proud to witness your initiation. We also refuse to put you through any humiliating acts for you to become a member, pledging our chapter is fun and developmental, an exciting and memorable experience un-matched by any other chapter or Fraternity.
Why Join the Pan American Chapter of Delta Upsilon? Simply because we Exceed the Standard in all that we do, Expect Nothing Less.
