Pledge Class Scheduled to go to Houston [Above is a picture of the D.U. House at U.H.] On November 30th 2001, the Pan American Chapter's Gamma Class will embark on a traditional trip to Houston. Going to the Houston Chapter is a tradition started by A.J. Alford, who is the gentleman responsible for bringing DU to South Texas. The history behind this tradition dates back to November of 2000, when A.J. sent the Alpha Class (Enforcers) to the Houston chapter. The reason for this trip, was to familiarize the pledge class with our big brother chapter (the Houston Chapter was the big brother chapter for the Pan American Interest group since spring of 1999). The experience of the trip was rewarding in many ways. First, it familiarized the pledge class with brothers outside the chapter; second, it helped to establish a provincial bond and ties that last to this day; third, the one trip that Alpha class remembers and looks back upon with joy about was that one trip. This tradition will continue and Gamma class along with the pledge educator and a few other members are preparing for what is to be the trip of the Fall season. Among the experience encountered, was an opportunity to see a Home game against O.U., a chance to see the Houston Chapter House, a friendly game of football, a friendly exchange of ideas and e-mails, attendance to a tailgate party, a chance to meet other students from U.H. As well as a chance to see Houston and the towns along the way. The Pledge educator in charge of the trip is President, Jacob Chappell (Alpha Class), who will be accompanied by 8 members of the Gamma class. Initially the class was to vote on 2 options, the Oklahoma Chapter or the Houston Chapter. The class stuck with tradition and the closest chapter 8 votes to none. |
