"This is an award that is given every year to someone who makes an outstanding contribution to botany in the state of Texas," Lonard said of the award.
"Donovan Correll was a very famous botanist in Texas," he said. "He and another person did the manual...that documents all the plants that occur in the state."
Lonard's 240-page book, illustrated by Dr. Norman Browne, professor of art, and Ardath L. Egle, lecturer in the Department of Biology, was designed by Dr. Patricia de la Fuente and Terri Villarreal, both of the UT Pan American Press, which printed the book.
"As director of the press, I am honored that this author and book have garnered such a prestigious award," de la Fuente said. "I feel this book is one of our best productions.
