Broncs celebrate Homecoming 2014 with a variety of activities

UT Pan American is welcoming alumni and the community to campus the weekend of Feb. 14-16 to celebrate its 2014 Homecoming.

There are numerous activities for everyone to enjoy.

The festivities begin on Friday Feb. 14, when the UTPA Alumni Association will host a homecoming gathering at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium to support the Broncs as they open their baseball season playing Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The game begins at 7 p.m. The first 50 people to RSVP to the gathering can win free tickets to the game.

Alumni and friends of the University can reconnect with fellow Broncs at the UTPA Alumni Association chapter breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Alumni Center, 2402 S. Closner Blvd. The event is free.

UTPA will host its Homecoming Weekend ice cream social/estate and gift planning information session from 1:30-3 p.m. Feb. 15. All alumni and friends of the University are invited to attend the free event where they can explore ways to prepare for the future while preserving their wealth and helping others.

The event will be at the International Trade and Technology Building. Seating is limited. To reserve a spot or receive more information, call (956) 665-5301.

Also on Feb. 15, UTPA Athletics is hosting the Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon, where inductees and former Bronc athletes Marshall Rogers, Lupe Canul, Alonso "Knot" Garcia, Manny Martinez, Nancy Verástegui and Rene Guillen will be honored. The luncheon will be at 11 a.m. at the UTPA Ballroom.

Before rooting for the men's basketball team in their game against the University of Missouri-Kansas City, fans can celebrate at the Bronc Madness Tailgate from 3-7 p.m. outside the Fieldhouse. Festivities will include a Bronc Country Cook-Off and car show.

The cook-off is free and open to the public, but participants must call the Office of Alumni Relations at (956) 665-2500 to reserve a spot beforehand. Categories include fajitas and chef's choice.

UTPA's car show, hosted by the Alumni Association, will showcase cars from several decades.

Homecoming 2014 culminates with the 50-Plus Reunion Brunch for alumni from the Class of 1964 and earlier who have not yet been inducted into UTPA's 50-Plus club. The brunch will be at the UTPA International Trade and Technology Building at 11 a.m.
