The Coalition Against Violence and Exploitation (CAVE) project will host its third annual Art Against Violence Round Table Thursday, Nov. 14 from 4-6 p.m. at The University of Texas-Pan American’s Albert L. Jeffers Theatre located in the Arts and Humanities Building (ARHU). The round table discussion will confront issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking in the Rio Grande Valley.

The Pan American Collaboration for Ethics in the Professions (PACE) oversees CAVE, a project funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women.

The participants will include: Nora Montalvo-Liendo, program director for associate degree nursing at Texas Southmost College; Estella DeAnda, executive director for Mujeres Unidas; Evonne Lopez from SANE Mission Regional Medical Center; Guadalupe “Lupe” Trevino, Hidalgo County sheriff; Judge Israel Ramon Jr., 430th District Court in Hidalgo County; Darrin Rogers, UTPA associate professor of psychology, and Martha Calderon, UTPA research assistant to Rogers.

A juried student art show will follow the panel discussion in the Charles and Dorothy Clark Art Gallery located across from the Jeffers Theatre. Students are encouraged to submit artwork that represents their perceptions of violence. There will be a short awards ceremony with $200 in prizes as well as two mini iPads for the “best in show” and “positive image” winners for 2D, 3D, and graphic design entries. Artwork submission deadline is Nov. 8 and must be delivered to ARHU 302A between the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The contest is open to all UTPA students in all mediums.

The roundtable and art show are open to all students, staff, faculty and local community members.
