UT Pan American President Robert S. Nelsen addresses more than 1,000 potential Broncs and their families during the Fall in Love with UTPA event Feb. 16.

“The event hosted students and parents from the Coastal Bend, San Antonio, Laredo, and all over the South Texas ,” said Griselda Castilla, director of the Office of Outreach and Recruitment. “It gave us the opportunity to show potential recruits what UTPA college life is all about as well as allowed us to begin developing traditions and pride in our new students.”

Open and free to all high school and transfer students, "Fall in Love with UTPA" kicked off at the Wellness and Recreational Sports Complex, where UTPA President Robert S. Nelsen gave the visitors a warm welcome to Bronc Country. He shared many of UTPA’s successes and forecasted a bright future for the University.

Participants got a sweet taste of college life at UTPA by having the opportunity to visit their prospective colleges, meet professors and current students, and explore the many student organization options and student abroad programs. They also attended mock classroom presentations and took a campus tour.

During the event, potential students and their parents received enrollment assistance from on-site admissions and financial aid representatives who helped fill out all necessary paperwork and answered questions. The state-required meningitis shot for all incoming freshmen was also available at a discounted rate.

The fun-filled day also included generous scholarship giveaways, games, homecoming activities, and access to Bronc Wireless for live-feeds of all activities.

Participants also enjoyed a tasty lunch, hosted by Chic-fil-A.

"Future Broncs had a warm and friendly smile from every campus department, willing to assist them into a smooth transition into UTPA," said Fidencio Tamez, assistant director of the Office of Outreach and Recruitment. "We hoped the students who attended really fell in love with the University and come back and enroll for the Fall semester."
