The University of Texas-Pan American hosted a Veterans Day celebration Monday, Nov. 12 on the Chapel Lawn to honor UTPA students, faculty, staff and military veterans across the nation for their service.
The event featured the presentation of colors by the UTPA Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Color Guard Team and a welcome by UTPA President Dr. Robert S. Nelsen.
A student played taps while cadets fired a cannon, which was followed by a moment of silence to remember members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have died in current and past wars.
The Norma Linda Trevino Elementary choir from Edinburg performed “The Star Spangled Banner” for those in attendance. During the event, University leaders spoke about the importance of supporting student veterans.
Earlier in the day, the ROTC also participated in the Remembrance Day National Roll Call by reading the names of local service members who died protecting our nation.
