|UT Pan American ranks at the top of Texas colleges in the number of Latinos earning master's degrees. UTPA's ranking was recently highlighted in the October-November issue of the national Poder Hispanic magazine.|
According to the Hispanic Outlook rankings, based on information compiled by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics and its Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, UT Pan American not only tops all Texas schools but is third nationally in awarding master's degrees to Hispanics.
In the article, Poder writer Valerie Menard said the high numbers indicated the schools' success of not only recruiting Hispanics but, more importantly, their success in completing graduate programs by providing sufficient academic support for students. The article went on to say that earning a graduate degree results in higher median earnings, remaining more competitive in today's job market, and a demonstrated commitment to certain skills valued by employers - responsibility, time management and dedication to a career.
UTPA currently offers 53 master's, three doctoral and two cooperative doctoral programs within seven colleges.
