UTPA has participated as an early voting location at its library for years. But the University almost lost that opportunity this year because of low voter turnout in previous elections. University administrators and students worked with the Hidalgo County Elections Office to keep the polling place here. If there is low voter turnout during this election, the University may lose its polling place. That's why the University is urging its students, faculty and staff, as well as the Edinburg community, to perform their civic duty and vote early at UTPA.
"Voting is something that you have to learn, it's not natural," UTPA President Robert S. Nelsen said. "We have been told all our lives what to do. Now this is our chance when we get to tell some others what to do. Come out and vote and help us keep the polling site on campus."
The WRSC polling place will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25 through Friday, Oct. 29. The University will make parking available to voters and elections officials at the site.
