Sponsored by Citi, the Latino Youth Entrepreneurship BizFest Training and Competition, scheduled for July 30-Aug. 1 at UTPA, will help students learn how to turn hobbies into profitable ventures by applying the basics of entrepreneurship and leadership. Taught by expert trainers from UTPA's business faculty, students will learn how to establish entrepreneurial and leadership goals; create a business and life plan; network in business environments; and make public appearances.
As part of the program, students develop a viable business idea and plan, which is presented to a panel of judges. Laptop computers will be awarded to the top three presenters, who will also gain access to entrepreneurial and networking opportunities with USHCC Foundation businesses and corporate partners. The three winners are also invited to attend the USHCC 31st Annual National Convention and Expo Sept. 22-25, 2010 in Dallas, Texas, where they compete against other regional BizFest winners for scholarship funds at the 2010 National BizFest Competition. The USHCC Foundation covers all costs associated with travel and lodging.
"BizFest is a unique program that empowers Latino youth with knowledge, and constantly reminds them to be proactive and seek beneficial opportunities to further their success," said Dr. John Sargent, professor of marketing, management and international business and UTPA's BizFest coordinator.
The number of applicants is limited to 30 students.
