Art courses will include undergraduate advanced drawing and graduate two- and three-dimensional art media that will focus on the visual and spiritual experiences in San Miguel de Allende. Dr. Reynaldo Santiago, program director for the Graduate Art program, has led past study abroad programs to other areas of Mexico like Guanajuato.
Besides the study abroad program, several other UTPA activities are being planned during the week such as lectures by UTPA professors and performances by UTPA musicians.
“San Miguel de Allende offers many opportunities for the UTPA community,” comments Sylvia Aldape, director of the Office of Graduate Studies, Academic Centers and Continuing Education, “We have been researching the possibility of offering continuing education courses to the local community, internships for our students, and more study abroad experiences. Already, a group from San Miguel de Allende visited our campus and as a result one of the students has enrolled at UTPA.”
Creative writing courses to be offered include ENG 4340 and 6325. Art courses include ART 4311, 6301, 6302, 6303, and 6304. All courses offer 3 credits.
Financial aid and scholarships are available for students. Also, students will travel together to San Miguel de Allende on a chartered bus. In order to participate in the program and receive university credit, students must submit an application to the Office of International Programs, located at the UTPA campus, COAS 125, 381-3572 or intlcenter@utpa.edu and depending on the course, have either undergraduate or graduate student status.
Individuals may also sign up for any of these courses as a non-degree seeking student through the continuing education office. More information about the non-degree student option can be found at www.utpa.edu/ce or by calling 956/381-3661.
