This year UTPA employees contributed a total of $25,013.
“Having not only reached, but surpassing our goal gives me a great sense of unity and togetherness. Personally I feel accomplished in increasing awareness about the little effort it takes in making a difference in the lives of those in need. As part of UTPA as a whole, I feel honored and pleased to be given the opportunity to make a difference through such a program,” said Gilbert Perez Jr., UTPA Human Resources associate and SECC coordinator.
UTPA employees have the option to donate through payroll deduction, cash, check, or bank draft. With so many options, UTPA employees not only have the possibility to donate but also make a tax-deductible donation.
“Giving through the campaign is easy and you know the charitable organizations listed have met the highest standards,” said Gail Fagan, Office of University Relations public affairs specialist, who donated to SECC.
This year’s biggest contributors were the UTPA divisions of Business Affairs ($9,926), Academic Affairs ($7,558), and Enrollment and Student Services ($4,889).
“Every contributor has the opportunity to donate their contributions to the charity of their choosing from hundreds of charities/organizations listed in an approved list of qualifying charities,” said Perez.
Local charities to benefit from SECC include the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, Inc., Planned Parenthood Association of Hidalgo County, AVANCE – Rio Grande Valley, The Salvation Army, Family Crisis Center, Inc., American Red Cross, and many others.
“I am on the board of AVANCE – Rio Grande Valley, so I like to give to that great organization, which provides educational and intervention programs to support local children and families. It makes me happy to think that the money my colleagues and I at UTPA were able to donate can change lives and make a lasting impact on our community,” Fagan added.
