According to Integrated Global Knowledge and Understanding Collaboration (IGkNU) Manager Nick Weimer, the goal of the ethics conference is to create open forums for discussion on issues in ethics in immigration and intelligence, while at the same time, bring understanding about controversial issues to the region.
“International Week at UTPA is vitally important for educating our students, faculty and community on issues of critical significance. As we move toward becoming a more global society, increasing global knowledge and understanding in our community will be crucial in educating our students to be the leaders of tomorrow,” Weimer said.
The Office of International Programs, the Pan American Collaboration for Ethics in the Professions (PACE), and IGkNU will sponsor the event, which will feature four keynote speakers with expertise in intelligence, immigration and human rights.
Speakers include Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations Ambassador Luis Alfonso De Alba, New York Attorney at Law Richard Horowitz, National Defense Intelligence College Faculty Dr. Jan Goldman, and Texas Federal Immigration Judge Chris Brisack.
“This conference aims to bring together researchers from different disciplines to explore crucial international ethical issues in intelligence and immigration through an academic setting,” Weimer said.
The conference, open to all that are interested, will also include academic presentations and panel discussions, and papers presented by UTPA faculty and students, as well as from others from universities across the country on immigration, ethics, intelligence, border, national and global security.
