As in prior years, the winter visitors spent the most money each month on housing, groceries and eating out and transportation and most Winter Texans visited flea markets, Mexico sites, the beach and attended festivals.
The study findings were determined from 903 responses to questionnaires inserted into 25,000 copies of the Winter Texan Times.
This year’s study also asked participants about veteran status, health issues and computer usage. Almost 53 percent of the Winter Texan respondents or their spouses are veterans of the U.S. military. About 56 percent consider themselves in very good to excellent health although about 48 percent had visited a doctor one or more times while in the Valley in the past two years.
Most Winter Texans use the computer and subscribe to an Internet service, with most considering themselves intermediate users who are self-taught or learned to use a computer at work. They are most likely to use the Internet to get news and spend most of their online time e-mailing and browsing.
