Street said he was proud of the accomplishments of the UTPA Athletics Department over the past three years.
“Our teams have returned to being competitive on a national level, development efforts have greatly expanded and there is a greater awareness of Bronc athletics throughout the Rio Grande Valley,” said Street, who indicated he and his wife planned to move from the area to be closer to their families.

“Bronc athletics will always be close to my heart and I want everyone to know that my tenure at UTPA has been very fulfilling. I have enjoyed working with our staff, coaches and student-athletes, and appreciate all of their efforts. I am especially proud of the many new programs that have been instituted on our campus since my arrival, especially the Hall of Fame and the BAIT fishing tournament,” he said.
Street’s implementation of new fundraising initiatives for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics raised tens of thousands of dollars for the UTPA athletics program and scholarships for the University’s student-athletes.
As UTPA director of athletics, Street also played an important role in the development of the United Basketball Conference – a scheduling alliance with five other NCAA Division I Independent institutions that offered a home-and-away series between each program during the 2006-07 men's and women's basketball seasons. Street also hired eight department directors as well as seven head coaches, which strengthened the support staff for UTPA’s student-athletes.
Street said he chose to relinquish his day-to-day management of the athletic department to become a special assistant to Dr. John Edwards, vice president for the Division of Enrollment and Student Services, where he will focus his efforts over the next few months on two areas of greatest need to maintain a strong UTPA athletics program –conference affiliation and long term funding sources.
“Scott has been an integral part of enhancing the reputation of the UTPA athletic program, particularly in his efforts to create conference opportunities,” Edwards said. “We hope to take full advantage of his knowledge during the transition to help direct our efforts toward conference affiliation as well as work on other projects relating to intercollegiate athletics.”
An interim athletic director, to be announced soon, will step in upon Street’s departure. A national search for a new director of athletics will be conducted immediately.
