With the theme of “Nurses Gone Hawaiian,” organizers are encouraging attendees to dress in Hawaiian attire for a fun and laid back evening offering music, food and entertainment on the patio from 6-8 p.m.
The main event of the night will be comedian Gabriel Iglesias, a rising star in the comedy world, who will take the stage at 8 p.m. for a gut-busting performance. His stand-up has been featured on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Good Morning America," "Showtime at the Apollo" and BET's "Comic View" to name a few. He has won the Comedy Central and Comcast Cable's Comedy Special of the Year in 2003 and in 2004 and 2005 was voted into the Top 25 of Comedy Central's Stand-up Showdown.
In addition, the evening will offer several fun contests, and everyone who purchases a ticket to the benefit will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas. The winner will be announced before the start of Iglesias’ performance.
The ticket prices for the benefit are as follows: $100 admits two individuals and $50 admits one. UTPA students with a valid University ID can purchase tickets for $25 each. The event will benefit UTPA nursing scholarships and program enhancements.
Tickets can be purchased by calling Sylvia Ybarra or Darlene Martinez of the UTPA Department of Nursing at 956/381-3491.
