If you are a student or parent and need information on how to obtain financial aid for college, The University of Texas-Pan American can help you make your dream of a college education possible through College Goal USA Saturday, Feb. 24.

South Texas high school seniors and their parents are invited to attend College Goal USA, known as College Goal Sunday, a national initiative that provides free information and assistance to families applying for financial aid. College Goal USA is open to all college–bound students regardless of age, whether a traditional student right out of high school or an adult who is returning or pursuing higher education.

During the one-day event, which will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the Financial Aid Express Lab, UTPA will be offering free on-site professional assistance filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form – the form required to apply for federal financial assistance for higher education opportunities. This is the first step for families of college-bound students in applying for college.

The Valley Outreach Center and Student Financial Services representatives will be available to assist students during the two-hour moderated session that will lead to a completed financial aid form (FAFSA) for the student.

Parents and students should bring their latest tax information and/or last pay stub from the previous year in order to complete the form. The FAFSA form allows families to estimate their financial information, which can be corrected after their taxes have been completed.

The UTPA Valley Outreach Center’s Mobile Go Center will also be available to provide additional resources for the day. In addition, several scholarship drawings will be available, including an “Early Bird” scholarship for those who register online before the event.

For more information, call the Valley Outreach Center at 956/292-7597 or visit www.voc.utpa.edu/.
