The honor places the UTPA Ballet Folklórico, under the direction of Francisco Muñoz and Maria Oralia Garza Muñoz, on the roster along with organizations and performers such as the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Children’s Theater, Houston Ballet Foundation, Patsy Torres, and the Dallas Black Dance Theatre.
In its 37th year of existence, Dr. Amilda Thomas founded the Ballet Folklórico in 1970. The touring roster status was awarded to the Ballet Folklórico shortly before her death this summer.
“This honor will enable Dr. Thomas’ vision to carry on as the Ballet travels throughout the state representing the cultural art of Mexican folkloric dance and continues to serve as ambassadors of service, goodwill and professionalism,” Francisco Muñoz, artistic director, said.
Members of the 2006-2007 UTPA Ballet Folklórico are as follows: César Berlanga, César Galván, Raúl Galván, José Juan García, Juan Antonio García, Daisy Garza, John Eric González, Jenna Guzmán, José Martín Hinojosa, María Aurelia Leal, Juan Carlos López, Aimeé Maganda, Mónica Martínez, Cassandra Sonia Mendoza, Amabely Peña, Miguel Angel Peña, Rebekah Quintero, Blas Rodríguez, Cristóbal Rojas, Priscilla Sáenz, Norma Silva, Gabriela Tijerina, Angela Treviño, and Karla Uvalle.
