| Louis Gossett Jr. will kick off UTPA's Distinguished Speaker Series Oct. 30 at the Student Union Theater. | |
Gossett, who has won Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe awards, currently serves as the spokesperson and a behind-the-scenes leader for many charitable organizations. He is currently developing a nonprofit organization, The Eracism Foundation, to develop and produce entertainment that brings education to issues such as racism, ignorance and societal apathy.
Upcoming speakers include Rigoberta Menchú, Nobel Prize winner, Nov. 28, Dan Rather, legendary broadcast journalist, Feb. 13, 2007, and Scott Ritter, former U.N. Weapons Inspector, April 5, 2007.
The series is underwritten by student fees, and speakers are chosen by a Distinguished Speakers Committee made up of students, faculty and staff.
