The Carnival of the Great Pumpkin celebrated its debut at Pan American College in 1966 and has been an annual tradition ever since.
“The event allows the UTPA community to come together to provide a fun, safe and spirited environment filled with game booths, contests, food and lots of candy for children and their families to enjoy,” said Rebecca Gadson, director of special programs at the UTPA Office of the Dean of Students.
The carnival is open to students, faculty, and the surrounding community with free admission and parking. It will feature a pumpkin pie eating contest at 7 p.m., a costume contest with cash prizes at 8 p.m., and a booth decorating contest for student organizations at 9:30 p.m.
There will also be many carnival games and free attractions, such as inflatable moon jumps for children to enjoy. All proceeds from the booths go to UTPA student organizations.
