The search committee for the new provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at The University of Texas-Pan American narrowed its list of candidates following a nationwide search to five finalists June 14 announced UTPA President Dr. Blandina Cárdenas.

A Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs Search Committee was formed to fill the second highest position at the University when Dr. Rodolfo Arévalo departed March 2006 to serve as the president of Eastern Washington University. The committee, comprised of faculty, staff and a student representative, was assisted by the executive search firm Greenwood and Associates, Inc., which recently helped The University of Texas at San Antonio with their provost and vice president search. Additional information on the committee and search process is available at http://ur.utpa.edu/cr/cr-2404/news/search.html

The individuals selected by the search committee for a second round of interviews will be on campus next week – June 19-23, 2006 – for various meetings with faculty and administrators. Students, staff and the general public will have an opportunity to meet the candidate at an open forum to be held each day at 1:30-3 p.m. in the Library Media Theatre. Each candidate will make opening remarks then participate in a question and answer session. Input and evaluation of each candidate by open forum attendees will be seriously considered in the final decision-making process.

The final candidates and the day they will be on campus are: Dr. Dennis Gayle, professor of Strategic International Business and senior adviser to the chancellor and vice chancellor, University of West Indies, Monday, June 19; Dr. Suzanne LaBrecque, vice provost and associate vice president, University of North Texas, Tuesday, June 20; Dr. Paul Sale, dean of Education and Human Development, Radford University (Va.), Wednesday, June 21; Dr. Raman Unnikrishnan, dean of Engineering, California State University-Fullerton, Thursday, June 22; and Dr. Waded Cruzado-Salas, dean of Arts and Humanities, New Mexico State University, Friday, June 23.
