Key events of the exchange program curriculum are two concerts for the community by the Ballet Folklorico UT Pan American and ITESM Queretaro’s folkloric group on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for UTPA staff, faculty, students and for children under 12 years. Tickets can be purchased at the UTPA Payments and Collections office in the Student Services Building, Room 1.145 starting two weeks prior to the event. Tickets will also be available at the door for the same price.
Other exchange program events include a master class for UTPA dance students and local school district folkloric dance teachers on Friday, May 26 at 1 p.m. in the UTPA Health and Kinesiology II Building, Room 133, and an hour-long performance for elementary, middle school and high school students on Friday, May 26 at 10 a.m. in the UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium.
Through the joint project, both folkloric dance companies hope to address the needs of the University, local communities, and Rio Grande Valley school districts. The programs presented will offer assistance in preserving and promoting the dance art of Mexico to the underserved children of the community, local dance teachers who direct folkloric groups, UTPA faculty, staff and students, and the general public of the Rio Grande Valley.
The community is invited to participate in both the school performance and master class for teachers. In addition, complimentary tickets for the public performances will be awarded to several community programs for underserved children, senior citizens, and physically and mentally disabled children/adults of the area.
