Funds raised during the tournament will benefit student scholarships at UTPA through the Alumni Association, the Sam Williams Endowed Scholarship, and Bronc Athletics.
Since the association has included Bronc Athletics as part of its fundraising endeavors this year, student-athletes will assist in the tournament by selling tickets, setting up for the event and welcoming participants.
“This will be a very exciting year with the inclusion of Bronc Athletics joining forces with the UTPA Alumni Association to put on this 17th anniversary tournament,” Mark Lacy, UTPA systems analyst/special events coordinator, said.
Everyone is invited to participate. Sponsorship levels include: Ace, $7,500; Eagle, $5,000; Birdie, $3,000; Par, $1,500 and a hole sponsor costs $500. Green fees, range balls, cart, lunch and dinner, and drinks throughout the day will be provided to participants. Players will have the opportunity to win a 2006 Ford F-150 for making a hole-in-one as well as the chance to win various door prizes.
Prior to the event, the Alumni Association and Bronc Athletics will be selling $100 raffle tickets, for a chance to win a 2006 Jeep Liberty, which has been donated by Van Burkleo of McAllen. Only 400 tickets are available for purchase; you do not have to be a tournament participant to buy one. The jeep will be raffled after the tournament at Tierra Santa Golf Club.
“This is a great opportunity for UTPA alumni and friends to come together to have fun, and at the same time, raise funds for our students,” Debbie Grant, director of alumni relations, said.
