Expo exhibitors representing school districts from across the state of Texas will be joined by three districts from other states – Colorado, Washington, and Maryland. Susie Chapa, assistant director in Career Placement Services hopes to have strong attendance by both students and alumni who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of education.
“Our hope is that we’re able to provide qualified candidates who are available to meet the school districts’ needs. The expo will provide an excellent networking opportunity for students to meet several school districts from not only the Rio Grande Valley, but several others from across the country as well,” Chapa said.
Teacher Job Expos at UTPA have a proven track record as Chapa estimates about 30 percent of students who have attended the expos in the past obtained jobs as a result. Those who plan on attending the fair should bring résumés, cover letters, transcripts, and a minimum of five references. They should also dress in business professional attire and be prepared to fill out applications and conduct interviews on site. The expo will be held in the Fieldhouse from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
