The first session is held in the Student Union from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and the second is from 5-7 p.m. in the University Ballroom.
“The purpose of the fair is to boost awareness in financial aid,” said Bill Morley, assistant director of Student Financial Services. In addition, Morley said the fair is held to encourage students to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
Students have the opportunity for Student Financial Services to process their FAFSA at the fair, and professionals will be on site to help students and parents fill out tax returns, which are necessary documents needed to complete the application. Morley said even if students do not attend the fair, they are encouraged to complete the FAFSA by the priority deadline – March 1. More information on the FAFSA may be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Student Financial Services plans to give away 10 $100 scholarships throughout the day, as well as several $50 scholarships, donated by the local lending community. Students have the opportunity to win the scholarship money based on their knowledge of UTPA-related trivia.
Students also have the chance to win door prizes and receive information from various local loan lending institutions. In addition, student organizations, various UTPA departments, and representatives from the six colleges will be on hand to give out information and answer questions students may have about their respective programs.
