Sigma Delta Pi chapter inducts new members

The Sigma Delta Pi chapter at The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Modern Languages and Literature inducted new members in a ceremony held at the UTPA Student Union Nov. 3.

Sigma Delta Pi is the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica) that was established Nov. 14, 1919, at the University of California, Berkeley. The society has more than 600 chapters nationwide.

Newly inducted members include Carla Hernández, junior, Edinburg; Bruna Estrada, junior, Palmview; Erica E. Garza, senior, Peñitas; Cynthia Sánchez, senior, McAllen; Lorena Villarreal, junior, Mission; Briseida Pérez, senior, Edinburg; Aurelia Recio, senior, Mission; Arnulfo Villanueva, senior, La Joya; Nallely Garza, senior, Mission; Ana Cristina Villarreal, senior, Edinburg; Cynthia Berenice Sosa, senior, Edinburg; Roxana Zamora, junior, Alamo; Irene Galván, senior, Edinburg; Homero Morales, senior, Alamo; José Daniel Díaz, junior, Reynosa, Tamaulipas, México; Melissa Martínez, senior, McAllen; Sylvia Véliz, senior, McAllen; Adriana Castillo, senior, Alamo; and Aaron D. Womack, senior, Edinburg.

The majority of inductees are UTPA Spanish majors.

Faculty advisors for the UTPA Sigma Delta Pi chapter are Dr. Hector Romero, professor, and Zoila Romero, lecturer, both from the Department of Modern Languages and Literature.
