The University of Texas-Pan American is buzzing with activity during the first summer session for pre-college age students interested in engineering. UTPA is hosting three engineering camps this summer, which began its first camp the week of June 5-9. Students in grades ninth and 10th were taught the fundamentals of mechanical engineering and how mechanical components are integrated with electronics to create an electromechanical system. In addition, the students constructed an electric car powered with AA batteries and controlled with an umbilical cord through on/off commands from switches. Pictured left to right are Louie Garcia and Orlando Gonzalez, both 11th grade students at Lyford High School, lining up their cars for a little friendly competition on the last day of class.
