| Dr. Robert (Bob) Reeve, UTPA professor of education, will be honored for his many years of service to the UTPA College of Education with an endowed scholarship for science education in his name. | |
Dr. Hilda Medrano, dean of the College of Education (COE), said Reeve was chosen because of his long length of service to the COE and for establishing the Rio Grande Valley Science and Math Collaborative – a collaboration between the University’s COE and the College of Science and Engineering that provides in-service sessions for science and mathematics teachers and also allows them to obtain credit for a master's degree program.
“Most importantly, he is being honored because of his contributions to higher education in the Rio Grande Valley,” Medrano said.
To jump start the establishment of the scholarship the COE is hosting a reception Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at The Tower Club in McAllen to honor Reeve for his accomplishments, especially in the promotion of science education.
All friends, former and current students are invited to share this evening with Reeve. The reception is complimentary and donations to the endowed scholarship are voluntary. The reception will serve as a reunion of Reeve’s past and present students.
The college has set a goal to raise $25,000 over time for the endowed scholarship in his name.
