Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and both events will continue until 12:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to prospective students, local health professionals and to anyone interested in becoming a physician assistant or who has a general interest in the physician assistant profession.
The schedule of events for the open house include a review of prerequisite coursework, a review of the professional curriculum, an update of program activities, and student, faculty and professional panel discussions.
The PASP at UTPA was started in 1994 and graduated its first class in 1996 while still a satellite branch program of The University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston. In 1999, the program received accreditation independently of UTMB-Galveston. Since 1996, the program has graduated more than 160 physician assistants. This year the PASP will accept its last bachelor’s candidacy class and will soon transition its curriculum to the graduate level. Beginning in 2007-08, the program will award the master’s degree for successful completion of the curriculum.
