The event, which is open to the public, will be held in the College of Health Sciences and Human Services East Building from 3-7 p.m. The open house will provide interested faculty, staff, alumni and community members an opportunity to become a charter member of the UTPA Nursing Alumni Association and to sign up for an annual UTPA Alumni Association membership as well for as little as $50 annually.

| Sitting in front of a portrait of Florence Nightingale, UTPA Nursing Department Secretary Sylvia Ybarra (left) reviews plans for the first UTPA Nursing Alumni Association open house May 12 with Jacquelyn K. Williams, MSN, RN, BC, a Nursing Department faculty member. Designed to kick off the initiation of the Nursing Alumni Association, the event will also celebrate Nightingale's birthday as well the 35th anniversary of the nursing program at UTPA. | |
“The initiation of the Nursing Alumni Association will foster ongoing communication among graduates, faculty, staff and former students. The Nursing Department’s vision is that the Nursing Alumni Association will become a popular forum for continued relationships and recognition of our accomplishments,” she said.
Annual dues to the Nursing Alumni Association, Williams said, will help fund scholarships for nursing students and support the Nursing Department in upholding its belief that culturally competent health care should be available to all who need it.
