The lecture featured guest speaker Felipe Cavazos, UTPA business graduate.
“The Best of the Border Lecture Series was created to bring 'the best' and most successful business school graduates back to share the secrets of their success with UTPA business students,” said Penny Simpson, assistant professor in the College of Business.
Simpson said the series will be held once a semester and will feature UTPA graduates as guest speakers. She hopes current students will learn about the secrets of excelling in the real world and have an opportunity to network with others.
During the lecture Cavazos – who received his bachelor’s degree in 1991 and his master’s degree in 1998 – spoke about his work history, highlighting his accomplishments since graduating from UT Pan American and advising what he thought was the key to his success, such as "it's not your IQ, but your I will that's important.”
Cavazos has worked for Hunt Oil as a project manager for the largest master planned community in Valley history – the 6,000-acre Sharyland Plantation. He is now a partner in Santa Barbara Realty and the Sylvan Learning Centers franchises in the Valley.
The series was by sponsored Hacienda Ford and the UTPA Management, Marketing and International Business Department.
