| Students receive assistance in filling out their FAFSA forms from Student Financial Services representatives during the 12th Annual UTPA Financial Aid Fair March 4 at the Student Union. | |
“Mainly what we are trying to do is get students to fill out their applications early so they can have a better chance of receiving grants,” said William Morley, event organizer and UTPA college work study coordinator. “Students need to apply early because there is so much money out there that goes unclaimed because nobody applies.”
The event offered a wealth of information to Valley high school and UTPA students new to the financial aid process, and those returning students as well.
Student Financial Services representatives were also on hand to help students and parents fill out FAFSA forms in their makeshift assistance labs.
Also on hand were Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) representatives who assisted individuals in filling out their 1040A and 1040EZ federal tax returns.
The fair will continue from 5-7 p.m. today for students who were not able to attend the earlier session.
The UTPA Student Financial Services office provides eligible students with access to federal, state and local financial assistance programs including grants, loans, work study, and scholarships.
