The University of Texas-Pan American Bronc Baseball team will hold its inaugural baseball scholarship golf tournament in January at the Monte Cristo Golf Course and Country Club in Edinburg.
The tournament – which is being held to help raise money for baseball scholarships at UT Pan American – will be held Saturday, January 24 in connection with the Broncs' annual alumni weekend. Registration and breakfast will take place at 7:30 a.m., and the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
"We're very excited about the tournament, and we're excited that Monte Cristo has stepped up and is going all out to host this tournament," said UTPA Head Baseball Coach Willie Gawlik. "We would also like to thank the volunteers who have taken time out of their busy schedule to make this tournament a success."
The alumni weekend begins with a gathering on Friday evening, January 23rd, and continues with the tournament the following morning. The gathering is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Monte Cristo Golf Course and Country Club, and includes a buffet dinner. It is open to the public at a cost of $20 a person. Spots in the playing field and sponsorships for the tournament are now available.
"Our program has a great tradition and a proud past. With the continued support of our entire community in regards to special events such as this golf tournament, Bronc baseball will continue to have a totally bright future," said UTPA Director of Athletics William J.
