The University of Texas-Pan American will hold fall commencement ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 13 at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
An estimated 1,400 students are expected to walk in four separate ceremonies throughout the day.
Students from the College of Arts and Humanities and the College of Health Sciences and Human Services will walk in the opening ceremony at 9 a.m.
The College of Science and Engineering and the College of Education will hold their ceremony at noon, while the College of Business Administration and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences will follow at 3 p.m.
The final ceremony held at 6 p.m. will feature the master’s and doctoral candidates receiving their degrees.
This year’s ceremonies will include two guest speakers: Dr. William Cunningham, former chancellor of the University of Texas System; and J.R. Gonzales, who is serving his second term as chairman of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Cunningham served as chancellor from September 1992 to July 2000. He currently holds the James L. Bayless Chair of Free Enterprise in the Red McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin.
Cunningham served as president of UT Austin from 1985-92 and was dean of the College of Business/Graduate School of Business from 1983-85. Cunningham received his Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration and doctoral degrees from Michigan State University.
Gonzales, founder and president of JRG Communications, Inc. – an advertising and public relations agency – has a long-standing career in community activism. He has been involved in many service organizations including the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Mexic-Arte Museum and the CentTex Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. Because of his experience in the area of service, Gonzales has been able to facilitate training programs for a variety of nonprofit organizations.
Gonzales was born in Mercedes, Texas and graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations/Advertising.
