The University of Texas-Pan American Association of Migrant Students (AMS), the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) and the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) will celebrate National Farm Worker Awareness Week, March 28-April 4.
“From this week, we hope that people will learn that coming from a migrant seasonal farm worker family is something to be proud of,” said Marilyn Hagerty, UTPA CAMP director.
The event is being organized to celebrate the contribution of farm workers and learn about the current issues farm workers face in today’s society.
This week’s festivities include:
Fri., March 28 – Car Decorating for Farm Worker Festivities,Edinburg Baseball Stadium, 2-5 p.m.
Sat., March 29 – Cesar Chavez March,starts at Hidalgo County Courthouse and ends at Edinburg Baseball Stadium, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Mon., March 31 – Panel: Farm Worker Success Stories,UTPA Student Union Theater, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
Tues., April 1 – Student Farm Worker March,crosswalk on Sugar Road, Noon-1 p.m.
Wed., April 2 – Film: New Harvest – Old Shame, UTPA Student Union Theater, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
Thurs., April 3 – Presentation: History and Issues of Farm Workers in the United States UTPA Student Union Theater, Noon-1 p.m.
