| Dr. Sylvia Dominguez is recognized for her 43 years membership in The Pan American Round Table, an organization that works to promote knowledge and friendship of countries in the Western hemisphere. | |

Dominguez joined the organization two years after its founding in 1958, invited into the group by the late Margaret Looney and the late Virginia Toole, two prominent Upper Valley women.
Dominguez distinguished herself by becoming the first Valley member to get nominated and elected to the international organization – The Alliance of Pan Am Round Table.
Members of the Pan American Round Table study assigned countries – all members of the Organization of the American States – by reading books, going to lectures and traveling abroad. They then take turns making monthly presentations in order to educate each other on culture, customs, history and the literature of these colorful places. Dominguez’ assigned country is Columbia and she has also done presentations on the great Spanish/Mexican women writers.
“We always look forward to her presentations,” said Elsie Perez, the organization’s director. “She’s a very committed member, well respected and admired for her dedication to our organization.”
Dominguez said she has enjoyed this educational organization and especially sharing her knowledge with others.
"It’s hard to believe it’s been 43 years because I’ve really been enjoying myself so much,” Dominguez said. “I’m looking forward to serving for many more years to come.”
