The University of Texas-Pan American will host its second Student Leadership Conference Saturday, February 22 at the UTPA Student Union and the Communication Arts and Sciences Building at 8 a.m.
The conference brings together high school students from the Rio Grande Valley to meet and share ideas concerning leadership in their schools and communities.
Keynote Speaker Molly Ivins – a nationally syndicated columnist who writes about Texas, national politics and other bizarre happenings around the country – will present a speech on “Leadership in the 21st Century” to an estimated 150 high school students and 400 faculty, staff and college students.
“(Ivins) is super energetic and positive and we think it would be a good experience for our students to have her speak to them,” said Jeannette Broshears, director for Student Life and Transition Services at UT Pan American.
Ivins has been a three-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and received 1992’s Headliners Award for the best newspaper column in Texas.
Seating is still available and the cost is $10. For more information contact the Office of Student Life & Transition at 956/381-2659.
