Santiago Larrea, Cesar Ramirez and George Cardenas shot a 15-under-par in a scramble format tournament at the Tierra Del Sol Golf Club in Pharr to win first place. They walked away with 50-quart ice coolers courtesy of Broadway Hardware.
"We had great sponsor support, especially for a first time effort,” said Dr. Wig De Moville, department chair.
De Moville’s accounting faculty team placed second in the golfing fundraiser. De Moville was paired up with Associate Professor Ray Landry and Lecturer T. J. Sethi. The trio received dinner certificates at local restaurants for their golfing efforts.
A team of UTPA administrators led by Vice President for Business Affairs James Langabeer took third place honors. Langabeer, Mike Chrissenger and Assistant Professor Mark Granberry won pen sets from Office Depot.
De Moville said there are plans to make this winter tournament an annual event.
“Those who participated had a great time. We hope to get even more teams signed up next year,” said De Moville.
“Debits and Divots” sponsors included Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers, Lone Star National Bank and Valley Electric Company. McAllen Motor Sports sponsored a Kawasaki Prairie 360 four-wheeler to anyone making what proved to be an elusive hole in one.
