As a distinct medium of musical expression, the band will perform "Pageant" and "Psalm for Band" by Vincent Persichetti; "Emblems" by Aaron Copland; and "Essay for Cyrano" by Jean Louis Brunelli.
The band will also perform "Punchinello" by Alfred Reed – which is a romantic comedy overture that displays Broadway musical colors and rhythms; and "Free Lance March" by John Philip Sousa will open the concert in a more traditional exposure. "Cielo Andaluz" by Pascual Marquina will provide an international flavor to the concert, and in appreciation of the country, the Concert Band will perform "Variations on America" by Charles Ives.
The Concert Band is the principal symphony of wind instruments and membership is by audition.
The concert is open to the public. For more information, call the UTPA Music Department at 956/381-3471.
