UTPA students dressed in their best Halloween costumes roamed the campus wearing outfits ranging from Ozzy Osbourne to fairy princesses.

Ivonne Morales, a UTPA student dressed as a Tejano Princess, decked out in cowboy hat and glittered microphone along with her friend Paul Cantu, who dressed as the Guardian Legionnaire of Hell, spent their morning trick or treating on campus.

“We went to all the buildings all around campus and everyone was in the Halloween spirit,” Morales said. “Just look at all the candies on that desk.”

The Student Health Services provided a Haunted Clinic and offered free flu shots to students wearing a full costume. More than 30 students took advantage of the offer.

At the Student Union, twenty students put their artistic skills to the test cutting out everything from traditional faces to dragons on their free pumpkins during the Pumpkin Carving Contest sponsored by the Student Union and University Program Board.

Angie Morin, a student, won top honors for her original creation and was awarded a $75 UTPA Bookstore gift certificate.

“It’s a ghost on one side, a witch on the other and there’s bats and moons decorating it,” Morin said about her winning pumpkin. “I’m calling it my Happy Halloween pumpkin.”

The UTPA Food Services also joined the Halloween festivities and held a Halloween Bash – which included a costume contest during the dinner hour. The individual with the best costume will receive a $100 Bronc Bucks for first, second prize is $50 Bronc Bucks and third wins $25 Bronc Bucks.

Among the other activities scheduled on campus today, include the Second Annual Greek Council Haunted House at the University Center. The event is open to the public and the cost for a chance at this horror thrill is only a dollar or two cans of food.
