Potential actors do not have to be members of the theatre department or even associated with the University.
The play selected is “A Glass of Water” by Eugene Scribe. It has a cast of ten actors, equally divided between men and women. Director Eric Wiley is looking to cast one male and one female actor of middle age and one male actor from middle to old age. The rest of the roles are suitable for college-age actors.
"This is a light, fast-paced comedy and I will be especially interested in actors who exhibit clear diction and comic timing," Wiley said.
Special audition arrangements with Wiley can also be scheduled. He welcomes prepared one-minute comic monologues from playwrights such as George Bernard Shaw or Oscar Wilde.
For actors without prepared monologues, scripts for cold readings will be available.

Many universities prohibit all but drama majors from auditioning for their plays, but the UTPA University Theatre tends to function partially as a community theatre, since so few opportunities for non-student actors are available locally.
Anyone wishing to be placed on the audition list to receive written notifications of this and future auditions can call 956/381-3581.
Tickets for the production will go on sale in November. Rehearsals will begin October 14.
