Audition dates for spring productions at The University of Texas Pan American Theatre are Jan. 13-14 at 7 p.m. “Fiddler on the Roof” and another play will be cast, and smaller one-act productions will audition at the same time.
“Dinner with Friends” was originally selected for a Feb. 27 opening, but the agency controlling the rights withdrew permission. It will be replaced with Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal,” which is awaiting performance rights confirmation.
Everyone is welcome to audition, but all parts in the two productions are for people high school age and up. Auditions for “Betrayal” are in the Jeffers Theatre, “Fiddler on the Roof” in the Studio Theatre.
For “Betrayal,” the four actors must be at least college age and can be in their 40s. Director Eric Wiley prefers a prepared one-minute monologue from a modern play, but auditioners can read cold.
“Fiddler on the Roof” requires actors, singers and dancers. People should prepare 16-32 bars of a fairly lyrical Broadway show tune, and they may prepare a one-minute acting monologue or read a portion of the script cold.
Individual and group musical rehearsals will be prior to Spring Break, and acting rehearsals will begin after the break for the April performances.
Jeff Marquis, a UTPA graduate now acting and directing out of New York, will be guest stage director for “Fiddler on the Roof” and is flying in for these auditions. Dr. Marian Monta will serve as executive producer of the joint University Theatre-Department of Music production, and Dr. Wendell Davis will conduct the orchestra in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
