The board established the THE Star Award to recognize higher education institutions making exceptional contributions toward meeting the goals of Closing the Gaps, a plan designed to improve student participation, student success, quality academic institutions and research efforts. This year, the award focused on undergraduate education.
UTPA’s program was one of 19 selected from the 88 submitted for the THE Star Award. Five award winners and 14 finalists were recognized at a ceremony during the board's Regents and Trustees Conference.
Established in 1999 by the division of academic affairs, URAP collaborates with faculty and other departments on campus to increase the success of academically-based projects targeted at increasing student retention and graduation rates.
