The conference, “The Challenges of Globalization in the 21st Century,” will feature guest speakers from The Ohio State University, The University of Texas-San Antonio, The University of Texas at Dallas, el Instituto Tecnologico y Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Monterrey Tech), Universidad de Salamanca and UTPA.
Topics to be discussed include “The Impact of Terrorism: The Media, Politics and Economics,” “Understanding Islamic Culture,” “The Changing Role of Women” and “U.S.-Mexico Relations: Past, Present and Future,” which will feature Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, former Mexico City mayor and 1999 Mexican presidential candidate.
A Provost Global Excellence Awards ceremony honoring UTPA Fulbright Scholars and international faculty will be Wednesday, Nov. 14 at noon in the Board of Regents Room of the Administration Building.
The conference will also feature various cultural events presented at UTPA. Among them are a Dia de los Muertos exhibit, a Tai Chi performance, UTPA Ballet Flamenco and an International Food Festival.
